Negima! Magister Negi Magi Volume 19

VOL. 19
169 – Is it a Dream, a Reality, or an Illusion?

You can immediately tell that the beginning of the chapter is a flashback, although I was surprised that Nagi (Negi’s dad was at such a young age).  There was another revelation about Asuna, which was surprising.  When Asuna barged into Setsuna and Konoka trying to form a pactio, it was funny.  The ending was random, since they just formed a club about Negi… yeah…

170 – Out of Control Club Chairman Test

This was an average chapter.  I think with all the praising, Asuna really did get ahead of herself, since she lost to Negi completely.  Weaker than she expected (or probably just that Negi advanced very fast).  Felt the chapter was a bit too long with what was happening (the cast just exploring the various different places Eva made).

171 – Death Study

Loved the part where Eva just popped up when Asuna was least expecting it.  The ending was good too when Eva revealed what she really thought, and yeah, she’s probably just jealous.  Good chapter.

172 – Death Study Part 2

A better chapter than the last I think, it was interesting to see how Asuna would survive on that snowy mountain.  What happened was okay, and it wasn't boring.  The ending with Chiu (or Chisame) was a bit random though.

173 – Endless Death Study

I thought this one will focus on the last bit of Asuna’s training, but it didn't (she did survive though).  Just focused on everyone’s training, and there’s even a bit of a random switch to the other (normal) class mates while they’re shopping.  Pretty boring stuff in my opinion.

174 – The Keyword is ‘Father’

Whoa, this was an unexpected chapter, focusing on a completely different person (but I guess it was hinted at the end of the last chapter).  Anyway, it feels like a chapter chronicling the normal life of a normal person.  Seems like Yuuna’s dad knows of the mage world too, they’re more common than I expected.

175 – A Single Frame of a Youthful Summer

This was a funny chapter, giving us snapshots of what some class mates were doing in the summer vacation.  It was surprisingly good, from the fake Nodoka to Ako’s emails to Nagi, and then there are the movie classes of Kaede.  This is a fun chapter.

176 – Club Negima (Temporary Name) Growing in Numbers

The first half is negligible, while the second half is good.  Once Makie and Incho found out what was happening, things got a lot more interesting, and Asuna was surprising in that her training really improved her improvement.

177 – Dead or Alive

I liked this chapter, and it’s great to see the results of the members, having gained experience through their training.  The attempts at trying to steal the badges were funny, and they never had a hope from the start.  The ending was good too.

Overall
The volume felt a bit dull, and the club idea wasn't exactly the best.  There seems to be a lot of chapters that doesn't have much happening in them.
