Toy Review: Transformers Chronicle EZ Collection Hot Rodimus (Legends)

Review:  #75
Name:  Hot Rodimus
Brand:  Transformers
Allegiance:  Autobot
Line:  Transformers Chronicles EZ Collection (Volume 2)
Year of Release:  2011
Size Class:  Legends
Variations: I think it's the same as the Universe 2008 Rodimus

PACKAGING:

Once again, this is the Japanese version, and he comes blindpacked.  The packaging art (which is awesome, by the way) does not feature Rodimus, since he's not really the star of this volume.  Anyway, it's an awesome packaging.

VEHICLE MODE:

Rodimus transforms into a generic sports car, that doesn't really look like his G1 self.  The more prominent here is the huge spoiler, which looks somewhat out of place.

While fairly well painted from the front, the back looks a bit bland.  He rolls on all four wheels fairly well.  The black piece of plastic holding the spoiler sticks out a lot though, wished they could have kept using the red plastic instead.

He is decently sized for a Legends toy, of course, if you compared them to the very first Legends toys of Cybertron, he's tiny, but compared to how small they are now he's fairly big.

He is well sculpted, and has an animated look to him, yet he's blocky.  Good vehicle but very generic.

TRANSFORMATION:

Very simple, as you would expect but works very well.  It's nothing new, but it doesn't have to be and it's still very satisfying.

ROBOT MODE:

To be honest, I don't really see him as Rodimus, since it's so much more blocky and muscular.  The legs and feet are very thick compared to the thin arms but overall, the look is great.

He does have his iconic feature of the spoiler over his shoulders, however, it is not nearly high enough, so you can't really see it from the front unless you're looking really hard.

If you think about it, the robot mode is pretty much just the car mode spread out.

It was really hard to get my camera to focus on his head since it was so small but it's a good sculpt, albeit a bit simple and having that dull surprise look.  I really like how well the chest is formed from the front of the car.

Articulation is limited, but he has most of the basic joints (shoulders and hips), he has big flat feet which makes him easy to stand.  Quite a good robot mode to display actually.

OVERALL:

A fun little toy in his own right, he's not as complex as recent Legends figures, but he's still a great toy.  I recommend getting the cheaper Hasbro version if you can get him, but isn't a major lost if you don't.
