The Host (2013)

The Host is based upon the novel of the same name by Stephenie Meyer.  It was poorly received but conceptually, it's plot was interesting and intriguing.  Just disappointing in how it was executed.  Earth has been taken over by parasitic aliens who inhabit and take over human bodies.  They live in a non-violent society, everything provided for and free, and trusting with one another.  However, they have Seekers who find the remaining humans so that they can inhabit them, which seems completely at odds with what we are told.  The Seekers' methods of finding humans involve violence.  Anyway, the main character Melanie has her body taken over but she retains her consciousness and develops a friendship with the alien, and together, they set things right.  What makes The Host disappointing is that it never develops any further the parasitic aliens, we don't know their true origins, motives, behavior or anything, it's all very face value and shallow.  The fact that romance is awkwardly forced into the storytelling can make the film seem uneven.  Overall, while The Host isn't as horrid as you would expect, it's still not a great film.
