The Distinguished Gentleman (1992)

The Distinguished Gentleman stars Eddie Murphy as a common conman named Thomas Jefferson who realizes that he can obtain so much more, and in a legal way, by involving himself into politics and becoming a Congressman.  Coming in at an opportune time, he shares the same name as a well known Congressman who had just passed away and manages to get elected based on name recognition alone (which in itself is fairly humorous).  We're then treated to how Thomas situates himself nicely into politics and reaping in all its benefits and rewards.  The Distinguished Gentleman paints a heavily corrupt nature of the political system in which all the politicians play the system for their own selfish needs.  The film never builds up to a substantial plot, rather it plods along from one event to another.  Even at the climax of the film, it doesn't feel like it does anything clever and it ends abruptly.  However, it still manages to keep you entertained at some of the more far-fetched scenarios it presents.
